38th FISAE International Exlibris Congress in London

38th FISAE International Exlibris Congress in London

38th FISAE International Exlibris Congress 2020

The Bookplate Society warmly invites collectors and artists to LONDON for the 2020 FISAE congress

from Wednesday, 12 August 2020 (arrival from 10am)
to Sunday, 16 August 2020 (depart after breakfast)
The Bookplate Society is hosting the 38th FISAE congress at a large hotel in Central London, near the British Museum, hence the logo shown above. This is a change to our previous plans, which were to hold the event at Cambridge. For many reasons we are very happy to transfer the event to London. The city offers visitors so many enjoyable and interesting things to do and see.

The congress programme includes some innovations, in particular an auction of high quality exlibris. The congress runs for four days, but you are very welcome to arrive earlier and leave later in order to see London and visit other places around the UK.

Some keen collectors and artists have already indicated that they plan to be at the hotel on Tuesday, 11th August, or before, in order to have more time to meet other participants.

The original plan was to hold the congress at Churchill College, Cambridge. However, eighteen months before the congress, the college was asking for financial guarantees that the accommodation would be fully occupied. Your organisers were, of course, unwilling to give personal guarantees. Participants should understand that it is generally not possible to book accommodation and meeting halls without giving guarantees or deposits.

A compromise solution has been achieved. You are asked to pay your congress fees and accommodation charges one year in advance. This was the only basis on which this congress could be arranged. In return, you get certainty that the congress can take place, you get the advantage of favourable group rates for accommodation, and sending payment also fixes the currency exchange rate. Make your plans well in advance for an enjoyable time in London.

As usual, there is an exlibris competition and an exhibition of the best work created during the two years up to the deadline submission date of 31 March 2020. Substantial prize money has been offered by the Trustees of the fund established in Australia by Keith Everard Wingrove (1910-1995). We are warmly grateful for their generosity.
